The Ragdoll Breed

Originally developed in California, the Ragdoll cat breed has a fascinating history that traces back to its creator Ann Baker. These remarkable felines are renowned for their mesmerizing blue eyes, gentle and affectionate nature, as well as their unique dog-like characteristics. One distinctive trait of Ragdolls is their tendency to go completely limp when picked up, hence their name. As one of the largest domesticated cat breeds, Ragdolls are not only physically impressive but also possess endearing qualities.

When Ragdoll kittens are born, they come into the world entirely white, only to develop their distinctive color patterns as they mature. Another interesting feature of these cats is the presence of tufts of hair between their toes, adding to their charm. Often referred to as "puppy cats," Ragdolls are known for their playful and sociable nature. They are loyal companions that enjoy following their owners around and even playing fetch, exhibiting behaviors more commonly associated with dogs.

Ragdolls have a unique growth pattern, as they do not reach full maturity until around 4 years of age. During this time, their colors gradually darken, enhancing their beauty and elegance. Despite their large size, Ragdolls have a relatively long lifespan of about 15 years, providing ample time for them to form deep bonds with their human families. Overall, the Ragdoll cat breed stands out not only for its striking appearance but also for its affectionate personality and engaging behaviors, making them beloved pets for many cat enthusiasts.

The Cherubim Ragdoll- Mink, Sepia and Solid

The Cherubim Ragdoll has been in existence for as long as the Ragdoll breed itself. Ann Baker, its creator, had been breeding these cats since the inception of the Ragdoll breed.

Cherubim Ragdolls, previously known as Ragdoll-New Traits (Mink, Sepia, and Solid coat colors) have always been eligible for registration with TICA (The International Cat Association), but they were never allowed to compete for Championship status in cat shows.

 

In 2024, LCWW (Loving Cats World Wide) recognized this variant group of Ragdolls as Cherubim (Ragdolls). Many Cherubim Ragdoll breeders flocked to LCWW to show off their Mink and Sepia Ragdolls that conformed to every aspect of TICA's written standard with the only exception being coat and eye color.

After much controversy, TICA's Board of Directors unanimously voted to establish a Breed Group that includes Ragdoll - A blue-eyed, white-pointed (traditional-looking) cat and Cherubim - A mink, sepia, or a solid colored Ragdoll, with the only distinction being their coat and eye colors (which can be in shades of gold and green).

Effective May 2025, the cats previously known as Ragdoll- New Traits will be named Cherubim and these cats will be able to be shown and receive Championship status.
